“A very impressive, entry-level blaufrankisch red with a focused, medium-bodied palate with a lot of complexity: Think summer flowers, pistachios and Amarena cherries. Wonderfully vibrant acidity drives the long, racy finish. So much mineral energy. Drink or hold.”

“The 2022 Blaufrankisch if from the twin origins of Leithagebirge and Lutzmannsburg, fermented spontaneously in various oak sizes ranging from 500-liter to 2,000-liter barrels. Its dark blue, peppery, inky varietal note here is pure and open. The palate swishes in with uncommon juiciness, absolute precision and brightness. Fine, smooth tannins have the gentle, warm rub of a cat’s paw, lending gentle structure to this dense yet unfettered wine that is dynamic, articulate and mobile with much élan.”
Winemaker Notes:
“Made in an early-drinking style from ‘younger’ vines (10-50 years old) grown on limestone, primary rock, and loam from Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg. Fermented in open vats and steel tank. A wonderful introduction to Roland’s elegant take on Blaufrankisch with its signature characteristics of high-toned aromatic blue fruits, spice, and black tea. A wine that will drink now and age well for years to come.”
