“The 2022 Riesling Kellerberg Smaragd faces south-east – slightly cooler, as the shade of the neighboring Hohereck cuts off some sun.  The aromatic nose blends fragrant spiced grapefruit with Reine Claude plum and greengage, propelling juiciness but not overt ripeness.  An overtone of bergamot presents a highlight.  Round, full and immensely juicy, the palate has that same tart grey-yellow fruitiness.  Animation and energy drivers this forward, tingling with grapefruit zest and vivacious energy.  Lovely stony depth anchors it all but is almost lost in this wine’s youthful exuberance.  This shows beautiful purity and length.  (Bone-dry)”

“Knoll’s 2022 Ried Kellerberg Dürnsteiner Riesling Smaragd has a dense, intense, herbal-spicy nose with concentrated berry fruit but little juice. Rich and elegant on the palate, even quite powerful and full-bodied in texture, this is a mouth-filling Kellerberg with bodybuilder stature. Perhaps it’s a little haggard or at least without the juiciness and elegance of the great vintages. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2023.”
