Vinous, 94 Points
“The 2016 Rosso Fracanton slowly opens in the glass, yet with coaxing becomes deeply expressive, captivating with a blend of crushed ashen stones, dried strawberries, dusty rose and grilled herbs.  This is round and supple with energizing acidity and bright red and blue fruits that flow across a core of zesty acidity.  Saline minerals mingle with grippy tannins through the long and dramatic finale, as the mouth is left watering for more and a sour cherry crunch slowly tapers off.  This is a classy rendition of the Rosso Fracanton.”
Winemaker Notes:
“From biodynamically farmed, certified-organic, hand-harvested estate fruit. Named for Angelo Fongoli’s grandfather, “Fracanton” comes from the oldest vines at Fongoli, planted in 1975 and trained in palmetta. The grapes are destemmed and fermented spontaneously in open-topped clay amphorae without sulfur or temperature control. Maceration is an extended period of 4-5 months with gentle hand punchdowns. The wine is aged in old Slavonian oak botti for around 5 years. It is bottled without fining, filtering or sulfur and aged another year before release.”
Alcohol: 14.5%
Organically grown.
